They say March is the start of spring and that springtime is the land awakening. Are you ready to see the snow melt and the sounds and signs of spring here in Breckenridge? Hard to believe a whole year has gone by since the restrictions COVID 19 began, and our new normal started. As this year moves forward I hope those events we didn’t get to attend last year slowly start to come back, even if it’s just virtually. My Breckenridge-Frisco Area Community Insider has everything you need to know for March! Keep reading for Covid updates, Imperial Express SuperChair opening, and some great local events I’ve highlighted in my March Community Insider for Breckenridge-Frisco Area.
COVID UPDATE: Summit County Moves To Yellow
At the end of February Summit county moved to level yellow on the state’s dial for COVID restrictions. What does that mean for Summit County? It means the county has seen seven consecutive days of metrics fall within level yellow or lower. Local businesses are now able to operate at 50% with up to 50 people. Outdoor events has increased to 50% capacity or up to 175 people. This is amazing news and very encouraging for the coming months. But it’s important to stay vigilant and continue wearing masks to make sure the County doesn’t move back to level orange.
Frisco’s Snowshoe For A Cure
I am proud to be part of a community that supports such an important cause. The town of Frisco with the Frisco Nordic Center is joining together to support Susan G. Komen in the Snowshoe for the Cure. Susan G. Komen helps support breast cancer and the research behind it. This year they are changing things up a bit to keep in guidance with COVID. They will be partnered with High Altitude Special Events which will offer two virtual options. This allows participants to take part anywhere they choose.
You can snowshoe or pick any activity of your choice to help raise money for this event. Your goal is to complete a 2K, 5K, OR 7K. They are also offering this year a new Blizzard Challenge which will allow participants to snowshoes 25 miles on their own time. The Nordic Center is offering any participants registered for the Snowshoe for the Cure one complimentary trail pass. You can pick between the Chickadee or Snowshoe Hare trail. Registration is open at KomenColorado.org.
Imperial Express SuperChair Open!
Has anyone been able to go and experience the Imperial Express SuperChair that the Breckenridge Ski Resort has opened for the first time this season? If you are not a fan of heights I would sit this one out, because this is impressive terrain above 12,800 feet. The Imperial Express SuperChair is the highest chairlift in North America, so weather plays a big factor in if this lift can be open! Be sure to call and check if this is what you are making the trip for. In previous years it was typically opened by November or December, this is late in the season for it to finally be making its grand opening but better late than never!
